Hidden Safari

Description: For this activity, we drew a safari animal upside down in a cool color (blue, blue-grey,) while looking at the animal we are copying upside down as well. Once we were done drawing our animal, we picked patterns to draw over the top of the animal in warm colors (red, yellow, orange). We made sure the animal was not showing through the patterns on the paper. We then took our construction paper and glued the drawing onto the construction paper. We wrote down hints to guess the animal we drew and glued that to the construction paper as well. We made special glasses so we could see the animal through the warm color patterns. We traced a cutout of the glass shape then we cut it out. Next, we glued the red lens on so we could see our safari animal under the colors.

Extension Activity: An extension activity that could go with this project would be a science lesson on animals. The students will research the animal they drew and write a short informational report. The report will include things about the animal like the name, description of habitat, diet, adaptations, and one interesting fact they found about the animal. The students will then present their report and their drawings.
