Stained-glass

Description: In this activity, we created simple stained-glass window art right in the classroom. We began by learning about a famous artist known for his stained-glass work and explored the unique techniques he used. Students started by sketching four different window design ideas, then selected one to recreate on a larger sheet of paper. Once their final drawing was complete, they placed a clear sheet of material over it, taped it down to keep it in place, and traced the design using a black Sharpie to mimic the lead lines of real stained glass. To finish, they colored their designs using at least three vibrant colors. When held up to a window, each piece transformed into a colorful stained-glass effect.

Extension Activity: Students will design a series of connected stained-glass-style panels that tell a visual story or represent a theme, inspired by how stained-glass windows have historically been used to depict narratives in cathedrals and buildings. Students will choose a theme or story to represent. This can be a personal memory, a season scene, a cultural tradition, or even a short story.
